What means to be an American

After twelve years of being married, I finally decided to become an American citizen.
I really don't know why it took me so long or why I'm doing it now, I always consider to apply for it, but never did. I have been working all the time, I have been paying my taxes. Last summer 2009 during presidential campaign, I was disappointed knowning that I could not vote.
Instead of just complaining or criticizing events all the time and doing nothing about it, I decided to do something about it! On October 2009 I applied and Monday, April 5, 2010 at 10:30am, I become official an American citizen. During my interview I was little nervous, I studied well, I also had help from a friend whow testing me during our one hour commute back and forth from work, I did not have a problem with answering all the questions. I was getting little emotional and I had to compose my self to keep my tears back. During my oath I had fun listening to the story of our ninety year old judge told. I made a new friend and I was really overwhelm by all my friends wishes. I also had a congratulation cake, a beautiful watch from my husband's cousins and a wonderful dinner to celebrate. I am happy and I know it means more than I can imagine!!!!!! It's really, really,a very big deal to excersise your rights as an AMERICAN!
